Beta Readers Wanted for The Uncanny Hour

I’m looking for beta readers for The Uncanny Hour, a collection of nine dark speculative stories where the strange, supernatural, and impossible intrude on ordinary lives.

Some stories lean toward psychological unease, others toward fantasy, science fiction, and even a little horror, but all of them ask the same question: what happens when reality stops behaving?

If you are a fan of Black Mirror, The Twilight Zone, or The Outer Limits, then this just might be your jam.

At this stage, I’m not looking for proofreading or line editing. Please do not sign up expecting to hunt commas through the tall grass. That day may come, but it is not this day.

What I need right now is reader-level feedback.

  • Did the story hook you?
  • Did anything drag?
  • Was anything confusing?
  • Did the ending land?
  • Which stories stayed with you?
  • Which ones did not?
  • Does the collection work as a whole?

That sort of thing.

The manuscript is approximately 150 pages long in a 5.5″ x 8.5″ book format. Beta readers will receive a digital copy of the manuscript, along with a brief reaction form after each story and one final form for the full collection. Short answers are completely fine. I am not trying to turn this into homework hell. Oooh. That sounds like a cool story.

I am asking that beta readers complete the manuscript by July 5, 2026.

Because this is an unpublished manuscript, I also ask that readers keep it private. Please do not share, copy, post, distribute, or publicly discuss it. Also, you may not upload any part of it into an AI tool or other third-party service.

If you’re interested, please fill out the beta reader application here: https://forms.gle/Jcra8dLfPawseQxg6

Not everyone who applies will necessarily be selected, but I genuinely appreciate anyone willing to give their time and attention to these stories before they go out into the world.

Thank you.
